Where he studied
NIT Tiruchirappalli
A national institute of technology near Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, focused on engineering, science, technology, management and architecture.1
Two institutions frame this part of the record: the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, where Manivannan Subramanian studied computer science and engineering, and SRM Institute of Science and Technology, with which SRM Technologies extended its partnership while he was Chief Executive.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, referred to in the partnership announcement as SRM University. The SRM Group, of which SRM Technologies is part, spans digital, engineering, manufacturing and education.4
Institutional contribution
The announcement of 25 June 2025 described six strands of collaboration between SRM Tech and SRMIST. The register below lists each one with the status the announcement gave it — completed, under way, or still being explored.
| Initiative | What it involves | Participants | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student internships | Hands-on exposure to live projects in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Battery Management Systems (BMS) and automotive software development at SRM Tech’s Chennai headquarters | 15 students from the School of Mechanical Engineering | Onboarded |
| Faculty development | Specialised programmes in ADAS and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, to keep faculty current with industry trends | SRMIST faculty | Conducted |
| Research partnership | Participation as an industry partner in the ANRF – MAHA EV Mission Project, supporting research led by Dr. Bharathiraja of SRMIST | SRM Tech and SRMIST researchers | Participating |
| National workshop | A National Workshop on ADAS, co-hosted in collaboration with SAE | Academic and industry experts from across India | Held, March 2025 |
| Research laboratory | A dedicated on-campus R&D lab for research in ADAS, BMS, AI/ML, IoT and quantum algorithms for automotive and cybersecurity applications | SRM Tech and SRMIST | Being explored |
| Curriculum | Integrating AUTOSAR, a globally recognised automotive software architecture, into the university’s curriculum | SRMIST students | Under discussion |
In today’s automotive landscape, technologies like ADAS, BMS, AI/ML, and IoT are transforming the way the world moves. At SRM Tech, we understand that staying relevant to the needs of global automakers demands a strong synergy between academic research, practical exposure and industry insights.
Knowledge transfer is a two-way street. While students and faculty gain practical insights from us, we equally benefit from their fresh academic perspectives.
Education and industry must work in tandem to address society’s evolving needs.
Educational context
The announcement placed the partnership against a changing industry. Global mobility, it said, “is being redefined by advancements in software-defined vehicles, electric drivetrains, connected ecosystems, and AI-powered experiences.”5 In that environment, the knowledge engineering graduates need changes quickly, and the two organisations presented their collaboration as a way to “build future-ready talent, accelerate research commercialization, and co-create solutions that address real-world mobility challenges at scale.”
The practical elements reflect that aim. Internships place students on live projects rather than simulated exercises. Faculty development in ADAS and Hardware-in-the-Loop testing carries industry methods back into the classroom. A national workshop brought academic and industry experts together, and the proposed laboratory and AUTOSAR curriculum work would extend the collaboration into long-term research and teaching.
Manivannan S framed the rationale in terms of relevance: staying useful to global automakers, he said, “demands a strong synergy between academic research, practical exposure and industry insights.” It is the clearest published statement of his view on education and industry, and this archive does not extend it beyond what he said.
His own education provides the other half of the picture. A postgraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering from NIT Tiruchirappalli2 is the kind of technical foundation on which the software, electronics and data disciplines named in the partnership are built.
Glossary
Plain-language definitions of the technical areas mentioned above. These are general descriptions, not claims about specific SRM Tech projects.
Rankings, enrolment and campus statistics for either institution are not included: they change over time and are not needed to describe Manivannan Subramanian’s record. The only figures given are those stated in the cited announcement.
